Bhubaneswar: Heavy rainfall triggered by a low pressure system over the northwest Bay of Bengal will lash at least 18 districts in the state for two days till August 15, alerted the India Meteorological Department (IMD) today.

While 9 districts will receive heavy rainfall, the remaining 9 districts will receive moderate rainfall, the forecast report said.

Following the weather alert, Office of the Relief Commissioner today directed all the district collectors to remain alert.

"Following IMD’s alert, the Special relief Commissioner has asked all district collectors to gear up for any eventuality. While Fire department has been put on alert, 300 boats have been kept ready for relief work," Deputy Relief Commissioner Pravat Ranjan Mahapatra said.

Further, the met office has issued a thunderstorm and lightning alert for 10 districts Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, Nuapada, Bargarh, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Sambalpur, Koraput and Ganjam till 4 pm today.
