Illegal ganja plants destroyed

Rayagada: Ganja plants illegally cultivated over an area of 12 acres were destroyed by a joint squad of police and excise personnel in Rayagada district, official sources said here today.

Acting on a tip off, the squad raided plantations in Mahadimbla forest area under Padmapur police station, about 100 km from here, on Thursday and cut the ganja plants with the help of local people, deputy superintendent of excise, Bijaya Mishra said.

Then they set the plants on fire, he said adding the plantation was done illegally on government forest land by unidentified persons.
