Ganjam police have seized a substantial stock of illegal firecrackers valued at more than Rs 2 lakh from a rice godown located in Park Sahi under the Chhatrapur Notified Area Council in Ganjam.
According to reports, the raid was carried out late Saturday night in the presence of the Additional Tahsildar and Chhatrapur police officials. One individual has been detained for questioning in connection with the incident.
Large Stock Of Illegal Firecrackers Confiscated
During the operation, authorities recovered a significant quantity of firecrackers stored inside the rice godown. Police confirmed that the total value of the seized items exceeds Rs 2 lakh. The cache had been stored without proper permits and was considered illegal under existing regulations governing the storage and sale of explosives and fireworks.
The consignment, according to police sources, included a variety of firecrackers that were allegedly stockpiled for commercial purposes. The timing of the seizure coincides with the ongoing Dussehra celebrations and the approaching Diwali festival.

Trader Detained For Interrogation
As of the last reports, Chhatrapur police detained the owner of the godown for interrogation and are probing the source of the firecrackers and whether the individual was part of a broader distribution network.
The police have initiated detailed questioning to ascertain the legality of the procurement and to identify any accomplices involved in the illegal trade.
Enforcement Drive Intensified Ahead Of Diwali
Authorities stated that this raid is part of a larger enforcement initiative across Ganjam district to monitor illegal firecracker storage and prevent hazards associated with unauthorised stockpiling. Police confirmed that similar inspections and raids will continue in the coming days at warehouses and godowns where firecrackers may be stored without permission.
Reports added that further actions will be taken based on the findings from the detained trader’s interrogation.
