A serious allegation has emerged regarding the illegal transfer of a child from Yashoda Ashram, sparking widespread concern in the Odisha's Kalahandi district. The matter came to light after the District Child Protection Unit investigated the case, raising questions about oversight and child safety in orphanages.
The child, who had arrived at the Yashoda Orphan Ashram in Dharmagarh on 26 June 2019, was under the care of the ashram management committee. However, recent reports allege that the child was illegally transferred after seven years to Irrigation Colony in Bhawanipatna. Following these revelations, a formal written complaint has been filed at Bhawanipatna Town Police Station by the District Child Protection Committee.
Child Illegally Transferred
Authorities from the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and the town police intervened to rescue the child. The child was subsequently handed over to a registered NGO for proper care. The case has now become a major point of discussion across Kalahandi, raising concerns about child protection and the accountability of institutions responsible for orphans.

Town police have launched an investigation into the matter to determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged illegal transfer. Officials are working in coordination with the CWC and child protection authorities to ensure the child’s safety and to hold responsible parties accountable. The incident highlights the importance of stricter monitoring and transparency in child care institutions across the state.
The case continues to unfold, with authorities emphasising the need for vigilance in safeguarding the rights and welfare of vulnerable children.
