Malkangiri: The inspector in-charge of Malkangiri Sadar Police Station was suspended today for accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh while two sub-inspectors were detained by Vigilance officials.

As per reports, inspector in-charge Ranjan Sahu, sub-inspectors Manas Ranjan and Sunil Kumar were caught red handed by anti-corruption officials last night while taking bribe from a private college owner for providing security to him.

Based on the complaint lodged by the private college owner, the sleuths raided the residence of one of the arrested police officials and seized Rs 1 lakh cash from his possession. After preliminary interrogation, the Vigilance sleuths detained all the three police officials involved in the matter and took them to Jeypore for further probe.

Sources said the owner of the private college located in Malkangiri Sadar area had asked for police protection fearing public backlash due to an alleged certificate forgery case him. But the police officials had demanded money from him following which he sought help from the Vigilance.
