Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (Idco) has decided to invite Expression of Interest (EOI) within three days to set up a World Trade Centre (WTC) in the capital city here.

“We have finalised location for the convention centre and WTC which will be built over 10 acres of land. We’ll call EOI within 2/3 days to finalise the architectural plan,” Idco CMD Vishal Dev said.

According to officials, Idco is likely to send proposals to internationally acclaimed Indian architects Karan Grover and Associates and Hafeez Contractor for the project for which it plans to finalise the MoU within three months.

While Janta maidan in the heart of the city has been chosen for the proposed multi-core project, Idco hopes that some internally acclaimed architectural firms who have experience in setting up WTC would apply.

The proposed WTC with an integrated capacity of 2500-3000 guests will be in line with the centres set up in Bangalore and Chennai and will offer a wide range of other facilities and services pertaining to the imports and exports.

“The single hall capacity of 1500 guests will be supported by smaller capacity conference halls with social infrastructure like hotels as a part of the project,” informed Dev.

“We are also exploring the option whether the WTC can be integrated with the convention centre,” added the official.

In November 2011, the World Trade Centre Association had proposed to set up a World Trade Centre at Bhubaneswar for promotion of international trade and investment in Odisha.
