ICC Men’s T20 World Cup betting racket: Rourkela Police raids multiple locations, several detained

Acting on allegations of illegal betting linked to the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Rourkela Police on Wednesday conducted simultaneous raids at multiple locations across the city, seizing electronic devices and cash.

According to sources, search operations were carried out in areas under the jurisdiction of Plant Site, Uditnagar, Raghunathpali, and Brahmani Tarang police stations. The crackdown was launched following specific intelligence inputs regarding suspected betting activities during the international cricket tournament.

Police teams searched several houses and premises belonging to businessmen and private individuals as part of the operation. During the raids, officials reportedly seized computers, laptops, and cash. However, the exact amount of money recovered has not yet been officially disclosed.

The coordinated searches led to heightened activity in the affected localities, with police personnel conducting detailed inspections and questioning individuals present at the premises.

Although no formal statement has been issued regarding arrests, sources indicated that four to five youths were detained during the raids and taken to a separate location for questioning. Police are examining all possible angles to determine their alleged involvement and to assess the scale and network of the suspected betting operation.
