Bhubaneswar: An Odia IAS officer reportedly committed suicide by jumping before a moving train at platform no 3 at Bhubaneswar railway station here on Monday.
 
Gagan Bihari Swain, who was working as the additional secretary of Planning and Coordination department of Odisha government, jumped before the Puri-Howrah express on Monday afternoon, police said quoting the train driver. GRP recovered his mutilated body lying on the track.
 
GRP IIC Soubhagya Kumar Swain said, "Prima facie, it seemed to be a case of suicide. He jumped before the train just when the train was entering the platform at 5.30 pm. The train driver has given us a written statement. It is not an accident case". According to some eye witnesses, the body was dragged to a long distance after being hit by the train.

The railway police who is investigating the case, has sent the body to Capital hospital for postmortem after registering a case of unnatural death.

Swain’s death shrouded in mystery that under what circumstances he took the extreme step. The news was a shocker to the family which was busy in the preparation of their son’s marriage on June 30.

Prior to the planning and coordination department, Swain had served as the director of textile department and collector of Sonepur district. He was not only a bureaucrat but also a well known literature, sources said.
