Hunt on for UTP who escaped from Phulbani court

Phulbani: Police is on the hunt for an under-trial prisoner (UTP) who escaped from the sadar court on Wednesday.

Talking to media persons on Thursday, IIC of Phulbani Town Police Station, Umakant Pradhan said police has received a complaint from the court sub-inspector (CSI) of Phulbani Sadar Court in which it has been mentioned that Saroj Gochhi, an UTP, who was facing court trial in connection with a theft case, managed to escape from the court hazat on Wednesday afternoon.

“Saroj was lodged in the District Jail since January 8. On Wednesday, he was produced the court for trial. At about 3 PM, he had gone to the toilet and had managed to escape by breaking the skylight of toilet room,” the IIC said.

He said police has registered a case no 59 under section 224 of the IPC and begun a manhunt to nab the UTP.
