A high-level investigation has been sought into the death of popular singer Humane Sagar, with Padmalaya Mohapatra, joint secretary of the Orissa High Court Bar Association, writing on Tuesday to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi seeking immediate intervention.

In her letter, Mohapatra urged the Chief Minister to assign the probe to a senior IPS officer or Odisha Crime Branch, stating that every individual connected to the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death should come under the purview of investigation.
The legal professional further demanded that all digital evidence related to Humane Sagar — including his mobile phone data, call records of suspected persons, bank transactions and social media activities — be thoroughly examined.
Questions have also been raised regarding why the singer had continued performing stage shows despite doctors reportedly advising him to take a rest. Suspicion has emerged about the role of his personal assistant (PA), with demands for the investigation agency to probe this angle as well.
“Why was Humane Sagar in depression? The doctor, who had been treating the singer since September 2024, had advised him to take a rest. In such a situation, if the support staff of Humane Sagar knew that his health condition had worsened to such an extent, why were they taking him for stage shows?” the outfit functionary questioned.
“Not only I, but the entire Odisha people suspect that Humane Sagar was killed as part of a bigger conspiracy. Despite rapidly deteriorating health, the managers refused to arrange airlifting to New Delhi and allegedly used abusive language toward the singer’s mother. We believe many people may be involved,” Padmalaya Mohapatra stated.
“At last, I would like to mention that recently Assam government has ordered a detailed probe into the death of Singer Zubeen Garg due to widespread public suspicion of foul play and allegations of murder. Similarly, our State government should take such type of bold step in Humane Sagar’s case as he was not just a singer, but he was an icon whose voice represented the sentiment of Odisha. His tragic and mysterious death deserves nothing less than truth, justice and accountability,” the legal professional added.
