In a startling statement following the death of popular Odia singer Humane Sagar on November 17, his mother Shefali Suna on Saturday alleged that her son’s health, programme schedules and financial matters were concealed from her. Moreover, his son was made to attend events despite being seriously ill.
According to Suna, Sagar was unaware of his own programme dates.
“Programme details were not told to Humane. Papu used to book the shows and handle the money. He knew everything about my son,” she said.
Suna recalled that although her son was unwell, he was made to perform in Bhubaneswar on November 10. The next morning, his condition worsened.
“He had 103-degree Celsius fever, his stomach was bloated, and he said he was feeling unwell,” she said. He was taken to the hospital on November 11, but discharged within an hour or two after a few injections.
Despite a high fever, another show had been scheduled for November 12.
“He was very sick, but still the programme was fixed. When I asked how he would perform, he said, ‘If I feel better, I will go, say hi-hello and return,’” she stated.
That evening, around 5 PM, his manager, Dinesh Behera alias Papu, reportedly took him to the hospital again.
“The same day he was shifted to the ICU,” Suna said, alleging that she was not informed of the seriousness of his health condition.
Suna also raised concerns regarding Sagar’s finances.
“I don’t know who managed his bank accounts. Programme dates were fixed by them. When I asked about pending payments, they said organiser Lulu Mohanty would clear them. They gave me Rs 2.2 lakh when my son was in the hospital,” she stated.
