Bhubaneswar: Even after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik made his statement over the resignation of Raghunath Mohanty from council of minister, the Opposition Congress continued to create noise in the State Assembly demanding discussion on the matter which forced Speaker Pradip Amat to adjourn the House repeatedly.

Only after a transaction of 8 minutes, the Speaker was forced to adjourn till 11.30 a.m as Opposition stalled the House demanding CM’ statement. CM Naveen Patnaik also presented his statement over the issue after the Speaker resumed question hour.

“Raghunath Mohanty submitted his resignation to me this morning. I have forwarded the letter of resignation on moral ground to the honorable Governor. In order to ensure a free and fair investigation, the case has been handed over to Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC)”, CM Patnaik said.

Later, similar situation prevailed in the Assembly as adamant Opposition demanded arrest of culprit and justice to the victim. They also demanded a special discussion on Mohanty issue which was rejected by the Speaker. As Speaker proceeded to run the House with other topics, Congress members rushed to the well making noise. The Speaker adjourned the house till 12.45 and again till 3 pm.

Amat rejected Opposition’s demand saying that it cannot be accepted as Chief Minister already made his statement over the matter.

On the other hand, leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh said “Our demand is a special discussion on the dowry case and not CM’s statement”.

Notably, Raghunath Mohanty tendered his resignation Friday morning after his daughter-in-law filed a case of dowry torture against him and his family members.
