While people across the country celebrate Holi with colours, music and gatherings, for many doctors the festival passes quietly within hospital walls. In their profession, patients always come first. Even during major festivals, doctors often remain away from their families, dedicating their time and energy to caring for those who need medical attention.

The spirit of Holi may fill streets and homes with joy, but for some professionals, duty remains the priority. While most people enjoy the festival with friends and family, doctors continue treating patients in hospitals, ensuring that medical care remains uninterrupted.

At the same time, police personnel and security staff also remain on duty. Standing under the heat on busy roads, they work tirelessly to maintain peace and order during the celebrations.

“Holi is a very important festival for all of us. But as doctors, whether it is Holi or Diwali, our primary responsibility is to take care of our patients. We never step away from our duties. In fact, we feel satisfied and happy when we are able to serve those who need medical attention. At City Hospital, emergency services remain available 24 hours a day. Today as well, the OPD remained open until 12 noon so that patients could continue to receive treatment without interruption. During the little spare time we get, we share sweets with colleagues and then return to our duties. Of course, there is a sense of sadness because we cannot celebrate festivals with our families like others do. However, for us, our work always comes first. Patients are our top priority, and our work is our first priority” said Dr Sudipta Chinara, City Hospital, Cuttack

For these frontline workers, duty is above everything else. While others celebrate, they continue to serve society, reminding everyone that behind every festival’s safe and smooth celebration are individuals who quietly place responsibility before celebration.
