Hitchhiking proves fatal: 2 students among 3 killed in Bargarh

Bargarh: Tension prevailed at Petupali village after three motorcyclists including two students were killed in a road accident under Melchamunda police limits of Bargarh district today.

According to reports, the two class IX students of Churiapali were returning home from tuitions after taking a lift from the motorcyclist. The deceased students have been identified as Akash Kumar and Baskuv Bhoi.

Sources said both the students hitched a ride from one Saroj Pradhan of Kermeli village and were returning home when their motorcycle hit a JCB machine. All the three were killed on the spot.

Following the tragic incident, locals set the JCB on fire and staged a road blockade.

“It is an unfortunate incident on the Biju Expressway. We will take steps so that such incidents do not recur while adequate assistance will be provided to the family of the deceased as per provisions,” said Bargarh additional SP, Jaswant Senapati.
