Berhampur (Odisha): With the arrest of six persons and seizure of weapons from them, the police today claimed to have busted a gang of highway robbers which operated in Odisha's Ganjam and Khurda districts.

At least two of them were involved in over 15 cases of the dacoits, robberies, extortions, and attempt to murder in different police stations in Ganjam and Khurda districts, said SP (Ganjam) Asish Singh.

The six were arrested at Chhatrapur yesterday when they were planning a robbery.

The police seized firearms, two magazines, three ammunition and two bombs, two sharp weapons, a motorbike and four mobile phones from them.

Those arrested include Dillip Pradhan alias Mitu of Suryanarayanpur in Ganjam district, Rinku alias Banaj Patnaik of Rameswar under Nirakarapur police station limit in Khurda district, Tikina Gouda of Laxmipur under Chamakhandi police station limit in Ganjam district, Singh said.

The other three accused were Banamali Pradhan, Bikash Bisoi and Chandan Nayak, all residents of Polasara.

While police wanted Rinku, Dillip and Tikina in connections with several cases, police was verifying the cases pending against other three.
