High security arrangements in Cuttack & Bhubaneswar for Durga Puja

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police has made elaborate security arrangements in twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar from today to ensure hassle-free celebration of Durga Puja.

Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty informed that 40 platoons of police forces along with the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), Striking Force and Quick Action Team (QAT) would be deployed in different areas of Cuttack to maintain law and order.

Besides, the police personnel will be deployed in plain clothes to ensure safety of women and keep an eye on chain snatching incidents in the city.

“We are primarily focusing on four layers of security arrangements, i.e. guarding the puja pandals, monitoring the movement of people during the idol immersion ceremony and traffic management. We will also deploy personnel in the secluded points of the city to keep a watch on the criminal activities,” said the Commissioner.

“Around 300 police officers, including Inspectors, Sub-Inspectors and Assistant Sub-Inspectors, 50 DSPs and Additional SP-rank officers, 700 home guards and 500 constables will be pressed into action to guard the city,” added Mohanty.

The CP has asked the various organising committees to install CCTV cameras in and outside their pandals to keep a tab on the movement of the people. The committees have also been directed to deploy volunteers for crowd control duty at puja pandals.

Similarly in Bhubaneswar, 35 platoons of police forces will be deployed along with 250 other officers for smooth conduct of the Durga Puja.

A team of ODRAF and Odisha Swift Action Force (OSAF) will also be pressed into action to tackle any emergency situation in the smart city.

This apart, nearly 700 home guards and 400 constables would be engaged for security in Bhubaneswar during the festival, Mohanty informed.

The Commissionerate Police has further issued guidelines imposing restrictions on the movement of heavy vehicles on several roads of Bhubaneswar.

According to a notification issued by CP, the traffic restrictions have been imposed from today till October 20 from 4 PM to 2 AM.
