Dhenkanal: A herd of over 40 elephants, believed to have come from adjoining Kamakshyanagar forest range after crossing the Brahmani river on Friday appeared on the outskirts of Dhenkanal town.

The herd, including three tuskers and two calves, did not cross the railway lines or the national highway passing through the elephant corridor, Divisional Forest Officer, Dhenkanal, Harmohan Maharatha said.

The other option before the herd was to go to the other side of river, Maharatha said.

Senior forest and railway officials including the railway section engineer, Dhenkanal, Rajesh Kumar Das were camping at the spot and monitoring the elephants' movements.
