Kendrapara: A school headmaster in Kendrapara district was suspended for campaigning for his wife in the ensuing three-tier panchayat polls in the state.

An inquiry was ordered into the allegations that Dipak Kumar Jena, headmaster of the government primary school at Rangani under Rajnagar tehsil, was canvassing in the panchayat polls for his wife Mamatarani Jena, a candidate for the post of panchayat samity member.

Jena was suspended after the probe found the charge to be true, collector, Kendrapara, Pradipa Kishore Patnaik said today. Patnaik said it was against the service code and rules framed for state government employees. Besides, it also violated the model poll code of conduct now in force. As per rule, he said, no government employee could take part in electioneering and political activities.
