Hectic campaigning on as ULB polls draw near

Bhubaneswar: With only one day left for campaigning for the September 19 ULB polls, the vote appeal by political parties has become even more high-pitched. Senior leaders from all major parties after completing at least single round in all their respective assigned districts, have started making their appeal in a last-ditch effort to turn the tide in their favour.
BJD supremo and chief minister Naveen Patnaik this morning visited Polsara, Kabisurya Nagar and Digapahandi in Ganjam district that attracted a huge crowd and appealed the voters to exercise their franchise for the party to help drive the development of Odisha.
“I’d like to request to support all the BJD candidates for the overall development of your localities,” Patnaik said in the Berhampur meeting.
Meanwhile, the Congress after a delayed start in the electioneering is also trying hard to regain its place in the State politics after the 2009 debacle. Though its tall claims to rope in several Union ministers including Chiranjeevi, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Sachin Pilot, Jairam Ramesh and Kishore Chandra Deo are yet to bear any fruit, Odisha PCC president Jaydev Jena has to be satisfied with the presence of AICC general secretary and Odisha in-charge BK Hariprasad who is scheduled to visit Berhampur tomorrow.
Jena, during his day long tour in Keonjhar district along with party heavyweights, visited Joda and Baril and, appealed voters to cast votes for their party.
On the other hand, the BJP after getting a shot-in-the-arm following the declaration of Narendra Modi as its Prime Ministerial candidate for the upcoming 2014 polls, has geared up taking the development agenda and leadership qualities of the charismatic Gujarat leader.
