Bhubaneswar: Incessant rains lashed many parts of Odisha on Monday even as heavy to very heavy rainfall was predicted at some places in next two days under the impact of a well marked low pressure area.

The low pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood has now taken the shape of a "Well Marked Low Pressure Area" (WML) over the same region, the meteorological centre here said today.

Under its influence, rain and thundershower would occur at most places over Odisha, while one or two places over southern region of the state are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rains during the next 48 hours, it said.

Heavy rainfall is also likely to take place at a couple of places over north Odisha during the same period.

Gusty surface wind speed reaching 40 to 50 kmph and at some places up to 60 kmph may prevail along and off Odisha Coast. Fishermen are advised not to venture into sea, the met office added.
