Bhubaneswar: Heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty surface wind is likely to lash several parts of Odisha in next two days due to a fresh well marked low pressure (WML) area in the region.

The well-marked low pressure area now lies over Gangetic West Bengal and neighbourhood, the meteorological centre here said on Friday.

Under its impact, rain and thundershowers would occur at most places over Odisha, while heavy to very heavy rainfall (124.4 mm to 244.4 mm) is likely to occur at a few places over Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore and Sundergarh districts during next 48 hours, it said.

Extremely heavy showers (more than 244.4 mm) are also expected at one or two places during the period, it said, adding heavy rainfall may also occur at one or two places over Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Deogarh and Bargarh districts.

Gusty surface wind speeds reaching 45 to 55 kmph and even up to 65 kmph may prevail along and off Odisha Coast.

As sea conditions will be rough to very rough, fishermen are advised not to venture into sea, the Met Office added.
