Bhubaneswar: With the cyclonic circulation over north coastal Odisha and neighborhood now seen lying over northwest Bay of Bengal & adjoining coastal areas of West Bengal and Odisha, and the cyclonic circulation over westcentral & adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh - south Odisha coasts merging with the above cyclonic circulation, a well marked Low Pressure Area (LOPAR) will form in the north east Bay of Bengal by mid of next week.
In association with the system, Odisha will witness heavy rainfall on August 8 and 9. The predictions by Skymet show the State receiving 50-70mm rainfall on August 9 (Friday).
The forecast, as per meteorological parlance, is districts like Malkangiri, Koraput and Kandhmal in the southern interior Odisha will record heavy rainfall in the range of 70-80mm. Similarly, isolated places in the north interior districts like Keonjhar and Sundergarh are also predicted to receive 70-80mm rainfall.
In rest of the districts in the State, the total precipitation will be in the range of 25 - 40 mm on the coming Friday (August 9). The rainfall will continue with the same intensity on August 10 (Saturday) in southern districts like Malkangiri, Koraput and Nabarangpur. In contrast, the rest of the State is forecasted to witness light rainfall.
As per IMD, Odisha has received 10.9mm rainfall by mid-day today. Satellite images describe cloud density over Odisha as low, scattered having moderate to intense convectivity, which means the clouds are good rain bearing.
However, Odisha still figured among the top-15 deficient rainfall states in the country with 22 per cent less rainfall vis-a-vis the normal rainfall as on today.
The moot point now is will the State cut the deficit in coming weeks? The predictions by Skymet and IMD point to 'Mission Possible' for the State.
