Bhubaneswar: The heat wave has swept across interior parts of the state with Sambalpur recording the day’s highest temperature at 46.3 degree Celsius on Sunday. Mercury in Bolangir too touched 46 degree Celsius followed by Sonepur and Bhawanipatna with 45.5 degree Celsius.

According to the local meteorological department, the day temperature in as many as six places of the state hovered above 45 degree Celsius on Sunday.

Uncomfortable humid conditions troubled residents of Hirakud and Titilagarh where heat waves continued for the third consecutive day with mercury touching 45.3 and 45.2 degree Celsius, respectively on Sunday.

The weathermen have predicted a rise in temperatures in the coming days.

According to reports while roads in western Odisha towns wore deserted look as people preferred to remain indoors, commercial establishments also downed their shutters early.
