Heartbreak drama: Keonjhar youth climbs electric tower to end life after girlfriend stops talking

A young man climbed an under construction electric tower near Judia Ghati under the jurisdiction of Keonjhar Town Police Station on Thursday, reportedly after being upset that his girlfriend had stopped communicating with him.

The incident prompted the immediate response of local police and the Fire Services, who spent nearly three hours negotiating with the youth to ensure his safe descent.

Officials confirmed that the situation was brought under control without any injuries, and the youth was safely brought down from the tower.

According to sources, the youth threatened to take his own life after his girlfriend told him she would no longer speak to him. In response, he climbed an under-construction electric tower and insisted that she be called to the location. The tower was not connected to electricity at the time.

The youth is reportedly from Saharpada block, while the girl hails from Banspal block in Keonjhar district. The two had met during their studies and developed a romantic relationship, which recently soured, prompting the youth to issue threats of self-harm.

Authorities obtained the girl’s phone number from the youth and contacted her. After speaking with him, she assured him that they would continue communicating and meet once he came down. Following the conversation, the youth slowly descended the tower.

Youth Handed Over to Police

Fire Department personnel then rescued him and handed him over to Keonjhar Town Police. Police are investigating the incident to understand the reasons behind the dispute that led to such a drastic step.
