Bolangir: The headmistress of a girls high school here at Lukapada under Puintala block landed in trouble on Sunday after punishing some students on the school campus which is declared as a punishment free zone.

The matter came to light after the students lodged a complaint with police in this regard. On the other hand, the headmistress refuted such allegation saying whatever is done within official guidelines.

“The school has special guidelines and discipline. Nothing has been done beyond that”, accused headmistress Pratima Barik said.

At least six girls who came to school late were barred to attend the prayer class and later they were punished by the headmistress on the school premises. Some of them fell ill during the punishment and were soon admitted at Jamuda health center, guardians alleged.

The victims lodged an FIR at Bolangir town police station acting on which police interrogated the erring staff.  “We will discuss the matter with school management and other staff and legal action will be taken accordingly against the teacher” investigating officer Laxinarayan Satpathy said.
