Headmaster detained

Malkangiri: A high school headmaster in Malkangiri district was detained by the police for allegedly outraging the modesty of minor girl students. The headmaster of Kasturba Gandhi Girls` High School at Somanathpur was detained for interrogation on the basis of a complaint filed by a local sarpanch Reena Muduli, investigating officer Sibaram Pujari said.

Irate villagers gheraoed the school after locking the headmaster in a room, he said adding the headmaster was later rescued by the police. The boarding school has about 250 students of which 100 girls are staying in the school hostel. District Project Coordinator, Malkangiri, Bijay Kumar Khandayatray said he had deputed block research coordinator (BRC) to investigation into the matter.

Hundreds of students and their parents later staged a road blockade on the state highway near Somanathpur for over four hours demanding arrest and suspension of the headmaster. Traffic movement between the state and Andhra Pradesh was hit for a few hours due to the blockade.
