Cuttack: The High Court today asked the Odisha Public Service Commission(OPSC) to conduct the Preliminary and Mains (Written) examinations for recruitment into the Odisha Administrative Service as per the advertisement in 2011 for selection of 494 candidates but not to conduct viva-voice test without prior permission from the court.

In 2006, candidates were selected by the OPSC for filling up vacancies in 378 OAS officer posts in Class-Two category . However, all the 378 candidates were later given appointment as Class-One officers which was challenged in the High Court through a PIL by one Sarada Mohanty. The OPSC again published advertisement for appointment of 494 OAS officers while the matter was pending in the High Court. The High Court stricture for OPSC was delivered on the basis of a plea to cancel the latest examination for selection of OAS officers.
