Cuttack: The Orissa High Court on Tuesday rejected the review petition on the ongoing illegal religious structure demolition drive in the millenium city.

Adjudicating over several petitions, the court on Thursday had declined to intervene in the matter and posted the next hearing to May 7. The court had also asked the government to furnish a list of temples which have encroached government lands and face eviction.

The petitioners, who earlier urged the court to direct the administration to demolish only the temples which are creating traffic snarls, again filed a plea to review its earlier decision.

The district administration had launched the eviction exercise on Wednesday following the order of High Court. A day after the drive, residents of Cuttack observed a 12-hour long bandh in the city protesting against the administration’s move.

Even some MLAs representing Cuttack met Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and requested to take steps to stop the raze drive which hurt the religious sentiments of the people. Notably, one more temple was demolished on Monday.
