HC orders to go slow on port expansion

Bhubaneswar: Adjudicating a PIL on Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) limits expansion, the Odisha High Court on Thursday directed the Centre and KoPT not to take any hasty decision as talks are underway between Centre, state and West Bengal governments to sort out the issues.

Earlier, the above two port trusts had moved High Court seeking to be made parties to the case.

It may be mentioned here that a PIL was filed in the court seeking stay on the notification issued for the KoPT limits expansion. The petitioner had highlighted that KoPT transgresses the limits of Odisha coast jeopardizing the maritime activities in the state.
