Bhubaneswar: The High Court on Tuesday issued notices to the Home secretary and Rourkela SP to file reply within 24 hours on the issue of assault subjected to Rourkela first class judicial magistrate by a police official.

Earlier on Monday, a PIL was filed over this issue in the court.

Meanwhile, the Rourkela Bar Association continued their cease-work agitation for the second consecutive day. Though the state government placed the accused IIC Sadananad Pujari of the Udit Nagar police station in Rourkela under suspension and ordered judicial inquiry into the matter, the lawyers were not satisfied with the government action.

The lawyers of High Court Bar Association in Cuttack also joined the cease-work agitation demanding arrest of the accused police officer. They also demanded transfer of Rourkela Superintendent of Police for his failure to take corrective steps.

The President of the High Court Bar Association Biswamohan Patnaik said, they would convene a meeting Bar Association on Wednesday to decide on future course of action.

Notably, Pujari had picked up the Judicial Magistrate, Arun Patnaik on the night of April 2 and had allegedly assaulted him.
