Cuttack: Orissa High Court on Friday directed the state government to file a status report within 10 days on the ongoing vigilance enquiry into the alleged irregularities in supply of pulses (dal) for school children and expectant and nursing mothers under various schemes.(image)

Adjudicating over a PIL filed by a city-based lawyer, a division bench of Chief Justice V Gopala Gowda and Justice B N Mohapatra also asked the government advocate to obtain government instructions in securing all the relevant records pertaining to the dal scam.

During hearing of the case, when the petitioner said the vigilance has not yet registered any FIR in the matter, the bench told him to delete the prayer for CBI enquiry into the scam so as to issue notice to the government seeking status report on vigilance probe.

Lawyer and social activist Dilip Mohapatra last week filed the PIL seeking CBI probe into the scam.

Mohapatra had earlier filed a petition to vigilance director seeking a thorough probe into supply of inferior dal to beneficiaries of welfare schemes. But when no action was taken on his petition, he moved the High Court through a PIL.
