Cuttack: Paradip-based trade union leader Arindum (Bapi) Sarkhel, behind bars for two months in connection with a clash between pro and anti-Posco activists, was on Friday granted conditional bail by the High Court.

A single-judge bench of Justice S C Parija allowed Sarkhel`s bail application and directed the lower court to release him after imposing whatever conditions the magistrate felt appropriate.

The contractor was arrested for his alleged involvement in a group clash between pro-Posco and anti-Posco activists during the construction of a road in Paradeep on December 14, 2011 in which one person was killed and over 24 were injured.

He was arrested for two offences on December 23, 2011 after Jagatsinghpur police raided a hotel at Raipur in neighbouring Chhattishgarh.

He was produced before a Kujanga court on December 24 and has since been in judicial custody after being denied bail twice by the district court in one of the cases.

The district court had granted him bail earlier in one of the cases.
