Bhubaneswar: To chalk out future course of action in connection with its long-standing  demand to set up a High Court bench in western Odisha, the Central Action Committee (CAC) of All Western Odisha Bar Association (AWOBA) is holding a meeting in Jharsuguda today.

Sources said, today’s meeting carries significance as it is likely to discuss on economic blockade in the region and strategies to launch the agitation in villages across western Odisha to step up pressure on the State government.

The breakdown of talks between CAC and the Chief Minister to resolve the issue, left the options open for the lawyers who received widespread support from all sections of the society.

Yesterday, political parties and social organisations attended a meeting convened by the Jharsuguda District Bar Association. The political parties unanimously were of the view that they would support the outcome of the CAC meeting.

Meanwhile, the Sambalpur District Bar Association (SDBA) adopted a resolution at its general body meeting to continue the agitation including closure of all Central and State Government offices besides banks and insurance offices on August 29 and 30.

Notably, the striking lawyers have also demanded scrapping of Justice CR Pal Commission, which was set up to determine the place for establishment of a permanent bench of High Court in the state.
