Half-burnt body of elderly woman found inside house in Bargarh

A shocking incident came to light in Odisha’s Bargarh district after the half-burnt body of a 60-year-old woman was found inside a house near Uma Talkies in Hatpada on Sunday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Draupadi Mahapatra. According to preliminary information, the incident is suspected to have occurred late on Saturday night, though the body was discovered only on Sunday morning by her family members.

Following the discovery, Bargarh Town Police rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation. However, the exact circumstances under which the woman caught fire while she was asleep remain unclear.

Neighbours Report No Signs of Distress

Local residents said they did not hear any noise, screams, or calls for help from the house during the night. Neighbours expressed concern, stating that had any sound been heard, there might have been a chance to save her. The absence of any disturbance has deepened the mystery surrounding the incident.
