HAL finance manager flees after burning documents

Koraput: An employee of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) at Sunabeda in Koraput district, who was facing charges of financial irregularities, has allegedly fled after burning official documents and currency notes worth Rs 1.67 lakh. A case in this regard has been registered at Sunabeda Police Station, informed Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Niranjan Behera.

“Some financial irregularities were detected during the audit process by the concerned department at the company. The accused employee Bhaben Mitra who was posted as finance manager was facing enquiry and allegedly buying time by not submitting the necessary documents,” informed Behera.

Behera further informed “The accused returned home promising to deposit the documents in the morning. He then burnt the documents and currency notes worth Rs 1.67 lakh and fled from his house.”

Initial investigations revealed financial irregularities to the tune of Rs 1 crore, police sources said.

Meanwhile, the HAL authorities have reportedly put up notice at the residence of the accused announcing his dismissal.

On the other hand, accused Mitra’s wife has refuted all allegations and termed the whole case as a collective conspiracy against her husband.

“I feel that my husband has been framed and he is not involved in these irregularities alone. He has been framed with a purpose. Everything will be clear about the case when he returns,” said Mitra’s wife, Krishna Patri.

Arjun Khara, HAL Labour Union President said “A lot of irregularities are taking place in the company and this should be investigated. The investigations will reveal many things as a lot of people are involved in it.”
