Puri/Cuttack: As the first Monday of the Holy month Kartika holds special relevance and marks the beginning of 'Kartika Brata', large number of devotees across the State performed puja at various temples across the state.

As per rituals, Habishyalis observe Kartika Brata today at the Puri Srimandir. Women observing 'Habisha' performed special puja in front of the ‘tulasi choura’ and paid obeisance to deities at the Srimandir.

Meanwhile, for smooth darshan of the deities the district administration took special steps for entry of devotees through four gates of the temple.

Similarly, hundreds of devotees thronged the Dhabaleswar temple in Cuttack district today to offer prayers to the deity.

"I feel blessed by observing Kartika Brata on the first Monday here at Dhabaleswar temple," said a devotee.

"Special puja was performed in the early morning and darshan of the deity was allowed after 3 am following 'Snana', 'Khichidi Bhoga' and 'Mangala Arati'," informed temple priest Ajay Batri.
