Berhampur: Intensifying its drive against gutkha manufacturing units in the city, Berhampur Police on Wednesday busted a third such illegal unit in the last four days.

Badabazar Police in Berhampur reportedly busted a gutkha manufacturing unit at Panigrahi Pentha Street and detained four persons in connection with the incident. Police also seized 110 bags of gutkha, packaging machine, mixing machine and other raw materials used for making guthka during the raid.

"Acting on a tip-off about the duplicate gutkha making unit, we conducted a raid at the house of one Narayan Sahoo of Sagunasahi and seized more than 100 bags of gutkha. Several bags of raw materials used to prepare gutkha have also been seized," informed Badabazar Police Station IIC, Prasant Bhupati.

"The gutkha-making unit was preparing gutkha under the brand Gokul Deluxe Mix without any licence for the same. The adulterated gutkha was being sold only in Berhampur market," he added.

The IIC further said that four persons including the owner of the house (Narayan), who was running the business, have been detained and a case will be registered against them.

Earlier on August 6, Berhampur Sadar Police had arrested three persons and seized 40 bags of gutkha after a raid in Bhairabi Nagar area of the Silk City.

Prior to this, police also had busted another gutkha-making unit in Barigaon locality on August 3. While 17 bags of gutkha and two mixture machines were seized, a man was arrested by the Town Police during the raid.
