The Commissionerate Police has arrested six persons in connection with the group clash incident that broke out at Dargha Bazaar area in Cuttack during Durga Puja idol immersion procession late on Friday night. Six persons, including city DCP Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo, sustained injuries in the clash.
According to Twin City Police Commissioner Suresh Dev Datta Singh, the clash broke out over a DJ song, when stones were reportedly hurled at the procession.
Speaking exclusively to OTV, the Singh confirmed that the authorities have taken swift action, arresting six individuals involved in the incident. Further investigations are underway to identify any other participants responsible for the disturbance.
“The situation is normal. Like the previous year, all the idols were immersed at the right time this year. The procession was briefly halted for two hours last night due to heavy rain,” the top cop said.
“The stone pelting incident was reported between 1.30 am and 2 am. As we have a sufficient number of drones and CCTV cameras, the individuals are immediately identified and all six have been arrested. Further investigation into the matter is on. The stone pelting was from one side. The victims did not retaliate after the stone attack,” Singh informed.
The condition of the injured is stable now, the Police Commissioner informed.
Meanwhile, police have assured that strict security measures will be maintained for the remaining Durga Puja processions in the city to prevent any further incidents.
