Cuttack: Tension gripped Ravenshaw University as three students were injured including one Afghan student and two local students during a group clash here on Thursday. The injured students were rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital immediately following the clash.

As per reports, some of the boarders of New PG Hostel had locked the main entrance gate of the unitary university and were on strike demanding solutions to various problems related to their hostel.

In the meantime, a group of foreign students approached the striking students and asked them to open the gate. But the situation turned worse after a heated argument among the two groups leading to a clash.

“Me and my friends were in library when some of the students came and attacked us without any provocation,” foreign student claimed.

“We asked them to join us in the strike, but they forced us to open the gate and abused us in their mother tongue. When some of our students tried to make them understand a minor scuffle took place taking the shape of a clash,” a local student said.

The irate group of students, later, also attacked a scribe who was reporting the incident.

The situation was brought under control after Cuttack DCP intervened into the matter. Later two platoon police force was deployed to avoid any further flare up.
