Gridco would purchase 5 MW solar power from NTPC`s Solar Power Station at Dadri in Uttar Pradesh and another 5 MW from Faridabad Solar Power Station of Haryana.

Earlier, Gridco had signed a PPA with eight solar developers of one MW each.

This apart, energy secretary P K Jena said Gridco has also signed Power Sale Agreement with NVVN, a subsidiary of NTPC, to get solar power bundled with equivalent capacity of thermal power from unallocated share of upcoming NTPC stations.

Under the scheme, 20 MW of solar power has been allocated to Gridco, he said adding the corporation is in constant endeavour to develop solar power projects as a part of the National Action Plan for Climate Change.

Though the cost of each unit of solar power costs Rs 16.50, it will not affect consumers, the secretary said.
