Grass fire reported on Bhubaneswar Airport premises, brought under control

A minor fire broke out on the premises of Bhubaneswar airport on Saturday after dry grass on the airport grounds caught fire, officials said. The blaze was swiftly brought under control by the airport’s in-house fire services, and no injuries or damage to infrastructure were reported.

Airport authorities said flight operations were not affected, as the fire was contained promptly within the operational area of the airport. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

Fire Detected In Operational Area

According to officials, the fire was noticed in a patch of dry grass within the airport premises. Given the dry conditions, the flames spread briefly before being doused by airport fire personnel. Sources said the response was immediate, preventing the situation from escalating.

There was no report of panic among passengers or staff, and normal activities at the airport continued without disruption.

Airport Director Rules Out Major Incident

Bhubaneswar Airport Director Prasanna Pradhan said the incident was minor in nature and was handled efficiently by the airport team.

“It was a grass fire. It was a small fire and we immediately doused the flames. As the grass was dry, it might have caught fire at some point. It was not a massive fire and it occurred within the operational area,” he said.

Cause Yet To Be Ascertained

The airport director clarified that the fire was not caused by a discarded cigarette. He said the exact reason behind the incident is still being examined.

“It did not occur due to the lighting of a cigarette. It could have been caused by an electrical spark or possibly by a spark from firecrackers used by bird chasers to drive away birds,” Pradhan said.

Airport authorities said the situation remains under control and routine monitoring of the area is being carried out to prevent similar incidents.
