Bhubaneswar: The illegal structures obstructing flow of water causing flash flood in rainy season would be demolished, Housing and Urban Development Minister Raghunath Mohanty told Assembly on Wednesday.

Replying to a written query of MLA Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak and Bhagirathi Badajena, the Minister said at least 139 such structures identified as obstructers of drain water flow would be demolished on the basis of ODA act.

Similarly, at least 530 apartments, which are constructed flouting BDA guidelines, have been identified in the city. Action is being taken to raze the illegal portion of the buildings, he said.

This apart, 38, 8000 decimil lands encroached by the builders would also be abolished for which Government has started processing.

Notably, due to obstruction of drain water by the unauthorized structures, the rain water had entered the houses in many areas of the city during last monsoon. The issue resented public who had directly held private builders and government inaction responsible for the flash flood.
