Bhubaneswar: With members cutting across partylines opposing the extension of jurisdiction of Kolkota Port Trust up to Orissa coastline, state government on Wednesday said it would bring a resolution against the decision in the ongoing budget session of the assembly.

"The state government has taken a decision today to bring a resolution in the assembly to oppose extension of KoPT`s jurisdiction," Parliamentary Affairs Minister Raghunath Mohanty announced in the house.

The state government`s decision came after members of ruling BJD, opposition Congress and BJP sought passing of a resolution in the assembly during zero hour.

The issue was raised in the assembly by NCP member Amar Satpathy who opposed extension of KoPT`s jurisdiction up to Badhrak district.

"Extension of KoPT`s jurisdiction will jeopardise prospect of at least seven proposed ports along the state`s coast," BJD MLA Ananta Das said and dubbed it as a well-planned conspiracy against the growth of the state.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had already taken up the matter with Union Shipping Minister G K Vassan and lodged a protest against the decision, BJD`s Pravat Tripathy said asking all to unitedly oppose the move.

"We will support the state government`s resolution," BJP member J N Mishra said amid support by a Congress member.

Over a dozen MLAs demanded passage of a resolution opposing KoPT`s proposed move.
