Govt mulls autonomous tag to Burla medical college
This was informed by Health and Family Welfare Minister Damodar Rout in Assembly on Friday.
“Autonomous tag will help the medical college for its overall development including patient care,” Rout said.
Replying to a query of leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh on scarcity of medical professionals mostly in inaccessible regions, Rout said the State government will appoint as many as 443 ad-hoc doctors soon to meet the demand.
“Currently we have 462 vacant doctor posts and we are going to appoint 443 doctors on ad-hoc basis. Besides, the Chief Minister has sanctioned 525 leave reserve posts for which we are waiting clearance from the Finance Department,” said the Minister.
Rout informed the House that emergency medical ambulance service in the State will be started from March 1.
Recently the State government has recommended the Centre four places; Balasore, Baripada, Bolangir and Koraput for setting up new medical colleges under the Central scheme in the 12th Five- Year Plan.
