Bhubaneswar: Several important files, computers and furniture were gutted as a major fire broke out in a nine-storey government building here today.

Three fire tenders fought for about 90 minutes to control the blaze that erupted on the first floor of the building housing offices of several government departments, including the Engineering wing of the Agriculture department.

Assistant Fire Officer B B Das said. No injury to anyone was reported due to the fire as there was nobody in the building, today being a holiday on account of Dussehra, he said.

Though exact cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained, electric short circuit was

suspected to have led to the mishap, sources said. The agriculture minister Pradip Maharathy visited the site to take stock of the incident.
