Gori spurns male croco, hates to mate yet

Kendrapara: Gori, the country`s only captive white female crocodile at the Bhitarkanika National Park authorities has again rejected efforts by the authorities to make it mate.

"Under direction from higher authorities, a suitable match was chosen from a nearby water body. The male caught from the wild was released into the pond housing Gori," park officials said. "It stayed motionless for some time, then grew restless and tried to attack the male crocodile," they said. "It was the fourth attempt to get Gori to mate. Like earlier attempts, the latest effort last week has also failed," said forest officials.

The 38-year-old Gori lost its left eye during an attack on a prospective partner earlier at this internationally acclaimed Ramsar Wetland site which attracts visitors in droves. The forest department had earlier contemplated setting Gori free, but she was not as wildlife experts feared that it would not survive in the wild.
