Google Maps glitch! Cabbage-loaded truck from MP falls into gorge in Odisha, 3 injured

A truck carrying cabbage from Madhya Pradesh plunged into a gorge on the Kandhamal–Ganjam border late Sunday night after the driver reportedly lost direction when Google Maps allegedly stopped working due to a sudden network failure.

Three persons, including the driver, sustained serious injuries in the crash at Gazalbadi Ghat and were later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.

Map Failure In Dark

According to the police and fire officials present at the site, the truck was travelling along National Highway 59 toward Hinjilicut when the driver relied on Google Maps to navigate the ghat section.

When the vehicle reached Gazalbadi, the map stopped functioning because of network disruption. Unable to locate the correct route on the dark, twisting road, the driver lost balance, causing the truck to slip into the gorge.

Fire Services Team Rescues Driver And Helpers

Daringbadi Fire Services officials reached the spot immediately after receiving information from locals.

Fire Officer Dhabaleswar Pradhan confirmed that the team rescued the critically injured driver and two helpers trapped in the damaged vehicle before sending them to Daringbadi Hospital. They were later transferred to Berhampur for advanced medical care.

"We received information in the evening that a vegetable truck had overturned in a ghat. We reached the spot and inquired about the occupants of the matter. They said that they were following the GPS but lost signal on the way. They subsequently ended up in that stretch,” said Pradhan.

Truck Was Transporting Cabbage

The truck was carrying bundled cabbage from Madhya Pradesh. After it plunged into the gorge, sacks of cabbage were strewn across the slope, and local residents were seen in the morning collecting the scattered produce in bags.

As of the last reports, police have registered a case and inspected the accident site. Further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the crash.
