Khurda: Plastic products worth crores of rupees were gutted in a raging inferno that broke out in a private plastic factory in Khurda industrial estate today morning causing extensive damage to the factory.

More than ten fire tenders from Khurda, Jatni and Bhubaneswar along with hydraulic platforms and many fire extinguishers from the state capital were pressed into service to douse the blaze, fire brigade officials said.

Though huge quantities of raw materials and finished products were gutted, no injury to anyone was reported, they said.

The fire, which broke out on the third floor of the four-storey building, was controlled this evening, they said adding, the fire-fighters prevented the blaze from spreading.

Eyewitnesses said, they saw thick black smoke was billowing out from all windows of the four-storey building in the morning.

“Suspecting a major fire we had informed the fire fighters immediately,” an eyewitness said adding all the workers of the factory had moved to safer places before the fire spread.

The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
