A major train accident occurred on the Rourkela–Ranchi main railway line after a goods train derailed between Bano and Kanarwa stations on Wednesday evening.

According to reports, over ten wagons of the train jumped off the tracks and overturned, leaving the area scattered with mangled coaches.

Following the derailment, train movement on the busy Rourkela–Ranchi route has been severely disrupted. Railway officials rushed to the site to assess the situation and begin restoration work.

In a similar incident on July 12, 2025, a major railway accident was averted as a freight train carrying limestone derailed near the Upper Market area of Biramitrapur in Sundargarh district. The mishap occurred while the train was heading towards Biramitrapur railway station from Chuna Bhata.

The train was loaded with dolomite stones of  BSL Company and suddenly went off-track, resulting in the derailment of 11 wagons.

The incident took place in a semi-residential area near the Upper Market zone, raising concerns over public safety. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries or loss of life.
