Kendrapara: In a bold step, a bride refused to marry her groom who arrived at the wedding venue in an inebriated state at Chapalli village of the district.
 
The 22-year-old bride did not turn up at the mandap whenthe bridegroom was found allegedly in a drunken revelry during the marriage procession on Monday, police said.
 
"We have received an information about the incident.
 
But no complaint has been received in this regard. Still we are inquiring into it," Sub Divisional Police Officer Nrusingha Charan Swain said.
 
Angry villagers detained the bridegroom Pravat Mallick (26), along with his relatives, and let them off after they apologised.
 
"She has set a precedent. It is a message for all alcoholics. The bride and her parents deserve praise for taking such a bold step," former Mahakalpada Panchayat samity chairman Balaram Parida said.
